[tps_header]This is an amazing rescue story the movies have not yet invented, and… there’s a small surprise at the end.

All these dogs never did the world any harm. Their only crime was having been born. So, why should they face an unthinkable end?

In Fuxin City, Liaoning Province, China, one day some locals suddenly noticed a large red truck rumbled through town, packed to the brim, full of dogs. No one had any doubts as to where these unfortnunates were headed, so, they started following the four-legged cargo.

Inside the truck 300 poor dogs were tightly packed with barely enough room to breathe.

The truck driver was not about to deliver them to a safe shelter where they might get adopted to warm homes. The dogs were also not being taken to a clinic for much needed medical treatments and checkups. No, definitely not. They were being taken to a dog meat festival in the Jilin province of northeastern China.

These criminals were carting the pups to a dog meat festival in the Jilin province of northeastern China.

As soon as they spotted the truck and realized what was going on, caring citizens took to social media and notified animal rights groups such as Humane Society International and Guardians of Chinese Animal Protection. They asked people around the world to spread the word about what was going on.

Quickly a team was assembled to keep the truck in sight, and followed the moving cargo, until authorities were informed and could take action.

What would have happened to the dogs had people not taken matters into their own hands? Once they reached their destination, the dogs would have been tortured to death in the name of an ancient tradition that can no longer be condoned.

Thanks to the quick actions of everyone involved, the truck was pulled over and all the animals were handed over to police.

The worst part of all this is the fact that most pooches caught up in the dog meat trade are grabbed from the street. Many are actually stolen from warm homes. The mind cannot bear to know what these dogs would have suffered without this rescue effort.

The dogs are all safe now, because of a few unnamed heroes who made those first calls for help. Dog lovers everywhere are grateful to those who took action in real time when it mattered most.
