Where People Failed A Dog Succeeded
Doctors told Dixie that baby Danny had developmental delays. Already the mother of two other adopted children, she was up to the challenge and didn’t mind. The moment she saw Danny’s smile that was it. He was her boy.
Fragmented sentences were all Danny could produce in the way of speaking. His motor skills were also off, and potty training was a struggle.
Dixie and Edward her husband, made sure the children had everything they needed and that included Danny. However, they refused to give into one specific request, namely a dog for Danny. Both parents were not dog people and probably saw the difficulties of raising a dog at home.
The family’s living next door trained search dogs. At the time, Dennie was training a dog named Saki for the job. Each day after Saki had completed her training, she would be sent off to work. However, Saki began to do something strange. Almost every day, she tried to sneak out of the backyard, till one day, she disappeared.
Where did she go?
Saki went across the street to see Danny. She jumped on him, and he smiled. From that moment, his life changed. Saki would sneak over every day to see Danny. It was like Saki knew Danny needed her. The first complete, proper sentence Danny ever said was, “I am Saki’s daddy.” Suddenly, he could speak, he was potty trained, and he could throw a ball.
When Saki’s training was complete she was expected to go off to the rescue organization. Dixie begged Dennie to ask the organization if they could keep Saki, but the organization said no. Dennie begged them to come so they should see for themselves. Representatives came over and saw how Saki’s presence had transformed Danny. Saki is an amazing service dog.
They finally decided: Saki and Danny get to stay together.
